3 hour glucose

Week 16
Week 16 cartoon
I had my 3 hour glucose test done today. Not fun I tell you! Originally my appointment was scheduled for 130pm. we ate dinner last night at 630pm. I had to fast for 10 hours for this test which meant that I needed to have last eaten at 3am.... nope not waking up, thought about it but rather sleep. by 830am this morning I had a headache and needed coffee so I called to see if they could get me in earlier luckily they still had a morning appointment, if they hadn’t been able to get me in earlier then I would have gone almost 24 hours without eating, so not fair when you are pregnant! We started the test at about 930am this morning and got done about 1245pm.
Glucose
This is the best stuff on earth..... NOT!!!

I have never had to do the 3 hour test before so I had no idea what was involved. You go in and get a blood draw, than you drink this yummy orange drink, than 1 hour later you have another draw, 1 hour after that another and 1 hour after that you get the last draw. this wouldn’t be so bad if I had enough veins for them to draw from my left arm is not allow to have pokes or blood pressures done. My 2 good veins on my right arm got 2 pokes each.

Hopefully we will know tomorrow if I passed or failed it.

My busy week is over!

Dr. C (PCP) office called and said that they would like me to come in and have the 3 hour glucose test done. My results were on the high end for being done early. I am going in on Thursday 1.28 to have it done again. I have to fast for 10 hours!

What does strength mean to you?

While doing the YMCA LiveStrong program I met a great group of amazing women and 1 gentleman. When the group first started I felt a bit out of place, I was the youngest in the group. I kept reminding myself that if R (the only man in the class) could make it every day, then I could make it too. Towards the end of the group I did miss a lot of class due to being tired and queasy.

During the program my lung started to experience issues again. So I was really only able to do weight training but not so much the Cardio training such as running on a treadmill and the stair stepper. I think what I find the hardest to deal with is now my body has limitations that it used to not. I used to run distance and could run about 5 miles a day, now many times I think that I may not ever be able to run like I used to.

It amazes me to see how the human body can heal but doesn’t heal totally and you are to just adjust to your new abilities.

I thought that some might find this article interesting. (You will need to copy and past the link into your browser.)

One thing that this article doesn’t really talk about is the trainers that we had. If we didn’t have the trainers that we did I don’t think that we would have all finished the program. Every step of the way they were encouraging us and only pushing us to what our bodies can do. They showed compassion and got to know everyone.

It's a.....

Update from 1.18.10 - PFT, CT and Dr. C (pulmonologist)
PFT - showed slight improvement but they are saying it is stable

CT - the CT was pretty interesting this time since I am pregnant they had to do a shielded CT. So I needed to lie on 2 shields and then they put 2 over my stomach. The CT its self showed no change not for the bad and not for the good but Stable.

Dr. C - We are going to try an inhaler and some nasal spray for some congestion. I am to call at the end of the week.

Update from 1.19.10 Dr. G (High Risk OB) and Ultrasound

Ultrasound Update - well we were able to see what we are having and it’s a GIRL! Everything looks good.
Here is a picture of our little girl
Photobucket

Dr. G (high risk OB)
*Dr. G went over my Ultrasound and they have discovered that there is a blood clot behind my placenta. They are not worried since I am not having any cramping or bleeding. One thing that we know is that it was not there last month. They are going to monitor it and look at in a month. My cervix still looks good and they will be checking it again at my next ultrasound.

*Because I am on Prednisone I am at higher risk of Gestational Diabetes. So on Thursday when I see Dr. C (PCP) I have to have my test done. We will repeat the test again at 26-29 weeks when the test is normally preformed.

*Due the Prednisone and when and if I can get off it I may require a high dose of steroids. Steroids sometimes cause your adrenal glands to atrophy. Meaning that the glands may not produce enough stress hormones which can cause other issues.

*We also asked Dr. G (PCP) if he would be there during delivery and he said that if he is working or the on call dr. then he would deliver. If we have a planned induction or C-section that we could arrange it, but depending on who is on call that is who delivers. This is something that is different from Dr. C (PCP). We are still going to see both doctors.

*normally Dr. G (high risk OB) recommends that you try and see all the doctors in the office to get comfortable with them but since I am so complex he wants me to try and see him every time. Not that I am complaining since that just means less doctors that I have to meet.

*My next appointment with Dr. G (high risk OB) and for my ultrasound is on Feb 19 at 2pm.

So we have a name for our little girl. Her name will be Sophie Suzanne. We like the name Sophie and Suzanne is after Andi who passed away in July from lung cancer.
Well I think that is all for tonight.

Tomorrow I see the dentist to get a cavity filled and then I see Dr. C (PCP) on Thursday.

14 weeks 5 days

Week 14

Lately I have been feeling well. Second trimester is always a little better for me, third isn’t too bad either.

I have started craving spicy foods… anything spicy… doesn't matter what it is as long as it is spicy! I am able to drink coffee again… I knew this baby would learn to like it. Mommy is still in control... Well for now anyways…

My lung seems to be acting up a little but I can't tell for sure if I am getting a cold or not. I am hoping that it is just a cold. Tuesday when we see Dr. G (High Risk OB) we are going to ask if they will at some point want me to watch my O2 levels when doing different tasks, laundry, stairs, walking, and work stuff.

Hopefully Tuesday we will get a peek at whether we are having a boy or girl! Let’s hope the baby cooperates! If not we will have to wait a little longer. Both girls are excited to find out if they will be getting a brother or a sister. Melanie is adamant that she doesn’t want a brother and is only going to have a sister. She keeps saying “I am going to have another sissy and Allison can have the brother.” She also likes to ask for a brother and sister unicorn…. I have no idea what goes through this kids mind sometimes!

Figured it might be time to give an update on the family:

Vince’s last biopsy came back and no more abnormal cells so they don’t need to go in and take out anymore. He started grad school on Monday; he is working on his MBA. I think it is a lot more work than he was expecting but I know that he can do it.

Melanie is supposed to go in and have a filling done (yes a filling at 3.5!) in February, I have noticed that her gums bleed really bad, don’t look right and her teeth look like they have really bad soft spots, so she is going back to the dentist Monday morning, if they have time they are going to try and do the fillings than. Hopefully it is nothing but I think there is something going on. She really has been becoming more and more independent. She wants to go to preschool and do ballet. I can’t believe my little girl is getting so big!
Melanie - Jan. 9
Melanie and Max 1.8

Allison has been such a ham lately! I really think that she knows it too. She had really been talking a lot. We have sort of tried potty training but she is not interested at all. So we are going to let her just let us know when she is ready. Melanie the other day was telling her “Allison it is time that you have a big girl bed because you are now a big girl.” Allison is still in a crib and she walked over to her bed and hugged the slats saying “my bed, my bed!” I have a feeling she still wants to be the baby.

What a week....

13 weeks
13 week pregnancy cartoon
I am still feeling well. My breathing for now seems to be stable. I do get pretty winded when I do too much but that is to be expected.

I got my next appointment with Dr. C (pulmonologist) scheduled, and it is on Monday January 18. I have a PFT scheduled at 4pm, then a CT at 445pm and my appointment with Dr. C is scheduled for 5.

The week of the 18th is going to be very busy week for us
Dr. C (pulmonologist) on 1.18.10
Dr. G (High Risk OB) again on 1.19.10
I see my dentist to get a cavity filled on 1.20.10
Dr. C (PCP) again on 1.21.10

Hopefully this week we might also find out the sex of the baby! It will still be a little early but I will be about 16 weeks.

Is don’t see Dr. M (oncologist) until 3.10.10

Last week Vince went in for a physical and Dr. C (PCP) noticed that Vince had a new funny looking mole and wanted it removed as soon as possible. Wednesday he went it and had it removed. Yesterday they called and said that they would need to take out more but the good news is it is not cancer but the results do show abnormal cells, these cells have also been known to turn into cancer if they are left alone so the best choice is to remove all of the abnormal cells. Dr. C (PCP) if confident that they have now removed enough that they should not have to take out anymore.
